How to Catch a Mouse Without a Mousetrap--the Humane Way

In the article, "The Best Ways to Catch a Mouse," the author provides the reader with several methods for capturing a mouse. Although he lists several methods, one method that he references as the most humane method is the capture and release method. There isn’t much bias in this article. As I read through this, I tried to see if he leaned toward one method more than the others. His only bias seems to be on having a home that is rodent-free. What is nice is how he shares the different methods for capturing mice in a way that is easy to read and understand.

In case you are wondering how to capture a mouse without killing the mouse, follow these six simple steps:

  1. Get a toilet paper tube and crease two lines to form a flat sided tunnel. (This needs to look more like a box than a tube.)
  2. Put a treat on one end of the tube. (He recommends a cracker with peanut butter.)
  3. Get a tall (at least 20 inches) box or bucket—or a non-lined trash can.
  4. Balance the tube on the edge of a table or counter with the treat hanging directly over the trashcan or tall box.
  5. Because they like tunnels, the mouse will scurry to the treat and tip into the trap.
  6. Set the mouse loose—at least a mile from your home.
